All who are made sons and daughters of God by Baptism and faith should come together to praise God in the midst of His Church and to actively participate with both mind and heart in the Divine Sacrifice of the Mass. True active participation is an interior act of making ourselves fully present at the Sacrifice of the Mass, fully uniting ourselves with Jesus' Sacrifice, fully offering ourselves to our heavenly Father with His Sacrifice, and being fully open and receptive to the graces which flow from His Sacrifice.
What is necessary for everyone, whether sitting in the pews or exercising some liturgical role, is the interior awareness of what is being celebrated in the Mass. Through various liturgical roles we assist our brothers and sisters to enter more effectively into their own “active participation".
Altar Servers
The assistance of the regular servers and the Knights of the Holy Maiden and the Squires of the Holy Maiden help the priest to celebrate the Sacred Liturgy smoothly and elegantly.
Regular altar servers include boys who have entered the 4th grade through high school. Regular servers are encouraged to participate in at least one training session per year. They can request preferred Mass times.
Adults are also welcomed as altar servers. They usually serve at weekday Masses.
The Knights of the Holy Maiden is a fraternity of high school age men who serve the Mass and special liturgical events. In addition, the Knights attend two yearly retreats in conjunction with the regional association, the Knights of the Holy Temple. They also gather for social activities and participate in special acts of service. There are also opportunities for leadership experience within the group. The Squires of the Holy Maiden are middle school aged young men who want to serve and learn to do more to assist at the altar. Both of these groups serve at Sunday Masses on a rotating basis and at special liturgical events. For more information, please contact the parish office 765-865-9964.
Readers
Readers assist the priest and faithful attending the Mass by reading the Scripture passages in a clear and effective manner. Youth and adult readers are welcome for both Sunday and weekday Masses. Readers are asked to attend one training session per year. Contact Mike Koloszar, [email protected] for more information.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC)
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) assist the Priest in distributing the Most Precious Body and Blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ, at Mass and to home bound parishioners. When assisting at Mass, you are asked to arrive 20 minutes before Mass. If you are scheduled for a Mass and cannot attend, you must find your own substitute. One can become an EMHC after receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. The diocesan bishop commissions EMHC on a yearly basis. EMHC's must attend a yearly training session which is offered throughout the year. Contact Mary Nettles at 765-865-9964 ext 207, mnettles@parish.dol-in.org for more information regarding becoming an EMHC.
Sacristans
Sacristans provide genuine liturgical functions by carefully arranging the liturgical books and sacred vessels for each Mass as well as ensuring all the necessary persons are in place prior to the start of Mass, e.g. the reader, musicians, servers, EMHCs. After Mass the sacristan returns all items to their proper place. Teens and adults are welcome to become sacristans and can request their preferred Sunday or weekday Mass. Generally they arrive one hour before Mass and complete their work 15-30 minutes after a Mass.
Art & Environment
The Art & Environment team, coordinated by Jan Marrah, ensures that the worship space is decorated in a manner that enhances prayer and worship. Assistance is needed for Christmas and Easter decoration as well as daily and weekly duties to enhance our worship space. Please call Jan if you would like to be involved in this ministry - 765-865-9964 ext 203..
Ministry of Hospitality (Greeters and Ushers)
In the Gospel of Luke, 7:36-50, Jesus teaches us to be hospitable to one another and to our guests just as we would to Him. As an actively growing and vibrant community of Christ's faithful people, we want to take this opportunity to increase our parish hospitality! We wish to focus on how we greet and attend to the needs of all parishioners and guests! The Ministry of Hospitality will include two distinct roles: Greeters and Ushers.
The role of Greeter involves personally greeting parishioners and visitors at the doors of the parish building both before and after Mass or other parish functions.
The role of Ushers involves assisting parishioners and visitors in finding an accommodating place to sit in the Worship Space, facilitating the Sunday collections, and distributing the parish bulletins.
For more information call Therese Bath at 765-865-9964 ext 202 or tbath@parish.dol-in.org.
Music
If you are interested in becoming involved in our music program, or if you have any other questions regarding liturgical music, please contact our Music Coordinator, Dave Morrow at 765-865-9964 ext 217. Liturgical musicians foster the active and conscious participation of the faithful through leading the congregation in prayer through hymns, psalms, and liturgical responses. Prospective volunteers are welcome to participate as cantors, as members of our parish choir, or as instrumentalists.
