Confirmation is the anointing with oil (chrism), the sign of abundance and joy, and it enriches the baptized with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. It binds the baptized more perfectly to the Church and hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed. Confirmation, the second sacrament of Christian initiation, imprints a spiritual mark on the soul and is necessary for the completion of the baptismal grace.
“Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit” – Acts 8: 14-17
Confirmation is a two year program beginning in 9th grade. There is more information under the “Youth and Young Adult” section. Please contact Brian Campbell.
The Eucharist is the heart and summit of the Church’s life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out his graces of salvation on his Body which is the church. The holy Eucharist is the third sacrament of and completes the Christian initiation. At our divine liturgy (Mass), the bread and wine is consecrated and transubstantiated into the true and real Body and Blood of Christ, living and glorious, with Christ’s soul and divinity substantially present.
“Jesus said: ‘I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. Amen Amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him’ “ – John 6: 51, 53 – 56
Please join us for Communion by attending any of our Masses. Arrangements for weekly Communion to shut-ins can be made by calling the parish office. Non-Catholics or those not able to receive communion may come forward with their arms folded across their chest and receive a blessing from the priest.
