Fan the Flame: Inspiration through Religious Enrichment (F.I.R.E.)
What is it & who’s it for?
This program is for YOU!! It is not only for catechists; it’s for any adult who wants to grow in his or her knowledge of the faith.
The F.I.R.E. Program is a systematic adult formation plan of study that has been aligned with the National Certification Standards for Pastoral Ministers which are approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana has developed this plan of study to aid adults and catechists in their formation process.
The levels are listed primarily for those taking the classes as part of certification. Anyone can attend a class, regardless of the level. Even though the advanced and master level classes assume a certain familiarity with the basics of the faith, the facilitator will ensure that the content is understandable regardless of your current level of knowledge about the faith. You can take the classes in any order, regardless of level.
What are the levels?
Basic – meet for one session
Specialized – meet for one session
Advanced—meet for two sessions
Master/ELM—meet for two sessions. These classes are also part of the program of training for those in leadership positions at the parish (known as Ecclesial Lay Ministry, or ELM)
